A couple weeks ago Shane, Leighton and I got to attend the Very Important Bug Event at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Leighton has only been to the Memphis Botanic Garden once, so we were so excited to take her back for this fun event. It was the kickoff to Big Bugs sponsored by Terminix that will be here at the Memphis Botanic Garden through December 31, 2017. Big Bugs at the Garden will have different fun events going on each month like movie nights and tram tours.
The main attraction at Big Bugs is 96 acres full of David Roger’s 10 giant wooden bug sculptures that tower up to 18 foot tall. Rogers is the talented sculptor behind this nationally recognized traveling art exhibit. For the grand opening at the Memphis Botanic Garden, they had bug themed drinks, food, dessert and games. We ran around for a few hours chasing Leighton as she ran from bug to bug to try to find all 10. She even saw some real bugs and ate an ant sucker. Nothing will stop this girl from eating her sucker apparently. = ) We had the best night there together.
In addition to the huge 8 sculptures, there are insect stations and craft stations too to keep kids busy. We love the Memphis Botanic Garden, and it was nice to have a special event where Leighton could learn about 8 different insect species. She has been really fascinated with bugs lately, so it was great for her to see that bugs are not so creepy after all. If you are in the Memphis area, make sure you stop by the Memphis Botanic Garden to check out Big Bugs presented by Terminix
