The Truth about Getting Botox

The Truth about Getting Botox by popular East Memphis style blogger Walking in Memphis in High Heels

If you’reĀ anything like I was aĀ year ago, you may not even know exactly whatĀ BotoxĀ® is.Ā  Or you might be completely confused about what it is and what it does.Ā  BotoxĀ® injectionsĀ relax certain musclesĀ in your face and help reduce the appearance of frown lines and facial wrinkles.Ā  But did you know getting botox is also proven to help reduce migraines, arthritis pain and depression??

I’ve been gettingĀ BotoxĀ® injections from Spa TherapiesĀ for a little over a year now.Ā  My little sister talked me into it (she just turned 30), and we both wish we would have done it even sooner!Ā  I don’t have any deep wrinkles yet, so I useĀ the injections to be proactive and prevent lines before they become deep, permanent and etched into my face.

The great thing about getting botox is that it requires basically no downtime.Ā  BotoxĀ® is not surgery, and aside from some light bruising or spots that have to heal from where the needle was injected, most people go straight back to work after getting injections.Ā  BotoxĀ® is also clinically proven to be safe and effective and was approved by theĀ FDA toĀ treat forehead lines.

What surprised me the most when I first gotĀ BotoxĀ® is that you might actually be prone to less wrinkles in the future after getting it.Ā  And over time, you will have less deep wrinkles.Ā  Results typically last 3-6 months, but even if you stop getting botox treatments, over time your winkles should be a lot less noticeable and deep.Ā  If I would have known how great it is at preventing wrinkles from getting to the point where you can see them even when your face is relaxed, I definitely would have done it years ago!

My motto is always less is more.Ā  You can always get more, but you can’t take it away.Ā  I usually get a little in my forehead, my crow’s feet, between my eyes and a little in my smile lines.Ā  If you’re looking to reduce lines and wrinkles and have a more youthful look without surgery, I would definitely recommend tryingĀ BotoxĀ® and seeing what you think.Ā  And if you’re in the Memphis area, make sure you go see Veronica at Spa Therapies.Ā  She is a Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist and has over 20 years of plastic surgery experience.Ā  Have youĀ triedĀ BotoxĀ® before?Ā  Would youĀ ever get botox?

  1. I always said I would not get botox, but for my 30th birthday last year, my sister and I decided to get some. I have been getting injections for a little over a year now, and it was a great decision. The ’11’ wrinkles in between my eyes were the bane of my existence and they are completely gone now. I am so happy with the results! Great post Laura!

  2. I get botox for my migraines and it helps SO much. It is one of the few things that is actually effective and worth going through with. I would highly recommend it to others suffering with migraines. I’ve never really found it painful, and like you said, you sometimes just walk out with the little dots where the needle was inserted. Nothing too out there!

  3. Honestly, the idea of a needle being pressed into my forehead scares the daylights out of me. BUT I’ve heard amazing things about it. So maybe one day I’ll face my fears and go for it!

  4. I was just at my friend’s wedding this past fall, and one of the other bridesmaids is a dermatologist and was telling us the time to start Botox is in your mid 20s–I was like, wait what?!? I’m 30!!! I’ve been thinking about it lately, just worried about the cost!

  5. I cannot with the idea of a needle so close to my eye, but I loved everything I learned from this post! In the future? Who knows? I might feel differently about Botox.

  6. You’re so brave for getting this done – I’m afraid of needles, especially near my face! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, if I ever overcome my fears, I’d love to give this a shot! No pun intended haha

  7. Thank you for sharing your experience. Iā€™ve said that I donā€™t think Botox is for me yet- Iā€™m 31/ mainly because Iā€™m worried that it would cause long term damage BUT from your post and others it seems like nit, maybe Iā€™ll be up to giving it a try sooner lol. Have you had other facial treatments such as laser?? Just curious. Thanks again for your honest post.

  8. I have had my lips done a couple of times and have wanted botox but was on the fence. However, after reading this article, I think I need to follow your lead and do it as a proactive measure.
