I have been planning on redoing my dining room for years. I had a very dark brown (almost black) and small table. It was also SO heavy that it took at least 2 people to move it. And the wood also scratched so easily. It wasn’t kid friendly at all. When I started finally working on my contemporary dining room a few months ago, I knew I wanted it to be comfortable but still polished. I wanted it to also be modern, have lots of storage space and feel open and inviting. I had been toying with the idea of doing a banquette for quite some time. And I’m SO happy I did. It is absolutely perfect! Leighton loves sitting on it and calls it her booth (like when we eat out at restaurants.) It is comfortable with the throw pillows added to it, but we still have chairs for guests too. We can now fit 7 people comfortably when before we could only fit about 4 comfortably. I love how large our new table is!
We ordered 3
leaning vertical bookcases. You are easily able to mount them to the wall, so I don’t have to worry about Leighton playing in the dining room with lots of heavy and tall furniture. Our contemporary living room bookcase has lots of storage room. I previously had a dark wooden bookcase in here so I knew I wanted another bookcase to display some of my favorite colorful vases. These work out perfectly and give me plenty of room to store and display some of my favorite pieces. I use baskets on the bottom shelves to store household items like envelopes, tape, etc.
One of my favorite other pieces in our new contemporary dining room is definitely our new buffet. I’ve never had a buffet before but have always considered having one. Now that Shane and I have a daughter and a large extended family, I think a buffet is nice to store some of our nicer dinnerware and serveware (now we that actually have some haha!) = ) We have already been sitting in there some which is more than I could ever say for our dining room with our old furniture in it! I love how bright and spacious our contemporary dining room looks and feels too. The room perfectly holds the larger
table easily. I am SO happy with how everything turned out. What is your home décor style? Let me know what you think about our new contemporary dining room in the comments below. = )
Even though I prefer more traditional, I do love this contemporary design. I love the white clean look. That banquet is lovely!
It is so beautiful, Laura! I love that you added a bench on one side. It really adds something!

Really pretty dining room but why do you have wall to wall carpet in a dining room?
Thank you! Around here it is standard for holders to put in wall to wall carpeting through the entire house. While we agsolaiely esnt yo put in hardwood it just isn't in the budget yet. But hopefully one day! We hate carpet lol!
Obsessed with this! Modern is so my jam and I love your color scheme!
