You’ll remember I last shared this post here with 10 indoor places to visit in Memphis this winter with your kids. A lot of them were great for the holiday season, but with the holidays past now, I wanted to share some more places that are great both indoors and out this winter. Keep reading for my top 10 list of kid friendly winter spots.
10 Family Friendly Places to Visit in Memphis
1.) Memphis Zoo – A favorite of ours year round, but I love going when it’s not so crowded and so hot. Cue winter time! There are also still several indoor areas where you can warm up in between walking. The herpetarium and the animals of the night are both indoors. The Zambezi River Hippo Camp has a covered area where you walk around and look at the hippos and the fish. There is a large indoor dining area, and the gift shop is indoors too. I just took the 3 kids, and they love it. I think they love the playground as much as they love the animals.
2.) Memphis Botanic Garden – The majority of the garden is outdoors (which makes sense), but the but their main building is large and also has a cafe inside. It’s a great place to walk around and look at all the gardens and My Big Backyard. And then you can warm up inside and grab some lunch afterwards. I just took all 3 of the kids, and they always have a blast here.
3.) MoSH – I just recently took the girls here, and they loved looking at the exhibits all throughout the museum from the dinosaurs to the gemstones. And of course they just had to see a movie on the giant screen.
4.) Fire Museum of Memphis – I took Grayson here last year, and we are heading back here this winter again. Now that he’s a year older, I can’t wait to see what he thinks about it. If you have a child who loves fire trucks ,they will love seeing all the fire trucks, running around and playing and learning.
5.) Children’s Museum of Memphis – Another favorite of ours! During the winter, there is still SO much to do indoors. From the Kroger grocery store to the FedEx plane to the Autozone cars to the dentist office to the fishing and life size Lite Brite, chess and building blocks, your kids will never get bored inside CMOM. There is so much fun to be had and learning to ensue.
6.) Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid – I just took all 3 of the kids here for the holidays, and they loved it. We rode up the elevator which they all loved so much! We went outside to the lookout and got the coolest view of the Mississippi River, the bridge and downtown Memphis. Then we looked at the ducks, alligators and did a little shopping. You can easily spend an entire day here.
7.) The Art Project – The kids are constantly asking to come back here again and again! This place is filled with nonstop items to create art with. They can paint, build, draw, create art like masks, hats, garland, anything. You name it, they have it! And right next door is 17 Berkshire so you can grab coffee and cookies for the kids. The girls love their cookies and cupcakes!
8.) The Peabody Hotel – Our favorite hotel in Memphis, we love going to the Peabody. The kids all love it too and talk about it often. Kids can watch the ducks march and swim in the fountain. The deli has amazing treats for kids and adults. And the kids can enjoy a hot chocolate in the lobby while watching the ducks. If your’e staying the night, they have an indoor pool and hot tub that the kids love too. You will never get bored here!
9.) High Point Climbing – I haven’t been here in years, but I’ve already added it back onto my list to take the kids very soon this year. Leighton is old enough to climb with me and Matt now, but there is also a Kid Zone that is perfect for younger kids starting at age 3.
10.) Paint-a-Piece – I took the girls here over the holiday season, and they painted Christmas ornaments and a jewelry box. They had so much fun! There are so many pottery pieces to choose from. And I love that they offer new pieces and seasonal pieces all the time. There is something for everyone!
