Petals and Braids

Maybe it’s been the gloomy, cold weather, but I went with a bit of a monochromatic color scheme today.  At least I decided to wear it with a flower petal print on my shirt and bracelet to get me in the spring mood.  I’m there in my mind; now I’m just waiting on mother nature to catch up.  I bought this top from Macy’s last year.  It’s from their new Bar III line.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should.  A lot of the pieces are fairly trendy, but they’re priced really great and the quality is pretty good too.  The cami I’m wearing underneath the blouse is from Cache, and I just love it.  I’ve been buying these same exact camis from Cache for the last 10 years.  When they wear out, I just buy a new one and I get them in pretty much every color.  They are made of nylon and spandex are are so soft and comfortable.  I definitely recommend them if you’ve been looking for some basic camis.  I decided to hit up J. Crew last Friday for their 40% off Sale Items Sale.  I’ve got a lot of colored bracelets right now, so I was really looking for a great neutral statement bracelet, and this one definitely does the trick.  It was already marked down quite a bit to $49.99, and then I saved and additional 40% off, score!  I knew that baby was going home with me.  Speaking of a great statement bracelet, don’t forget to enter for the giveaway for the Loft Gunmetal Bracelet that ends tomorrow at 6:00pm CST.

My Braided Bun and Cutout Back Blouse.

Shane and I hit up the Downtown YMCA last night and did a good hour and a half workout.  He played racquetball with his friend while I lifted free weights, did some ab work on the mat, and did a bunch of the leg machines.  Afterwards, I ran 1.5 miles at an 8.5mi pace.  I don’t usually do really long runs until race day, so you’ll notice I normally keep it between 1-3 miles.  This has also helped me to work on my speed.  I started trying this technique last spring, and I ran my best time ever last June at the Harbortown 5K.  I finished in 25:52, and was stoked!  I am ready to kick it in high gear and beat that record this year.  If you’re in Memphis and have never run the Harbortown 5K, you should seriously try it.  It is so much fun.  It is my hands down favorite 5K that I do.  I’ve done it for the last 8 years.  They haven’t started their sign up yet, but it is usually the first Friday night in June at 7:00pm.  You can check out their past 5K’s here.  I usually get a pretty nice size group together to run it, and this is us last year.  I designed and had some tank tops made for us too.  It is usually so hot and humid in June in Memphis, so yes we proudly sported the tank tops lol.  And in case you were wondering, yes that is our friend wearing the jorts.  We all joked about wearing them to be funny, but he was the only one brave enough to follow through.  You can just call him Joe Dirt.  = )  Oh yeah, Mel and I will be hosting a Running Gear Linkup next Tuesday, so stay tuned for that.  We’ll show you our favorite running tops, compression pants, armbands, etc.

After Shane and I left the gym last night, I was craving something light but filling. I absolutely love guacamole, and homemade is the best. I used to really hate it because I’d only had the storebought kind, but now I’m hooked. The best part is that it only requires 6 ingredients. Avocados, tomato, onion, lemon or lime juice and cilantro. If I’m short on ingredients, I’ll make it with just avocado, tomato and onion, but the cilantro and lemon or lime juice really add some great kick to it! I usually just cut up two avocados and smash them a little, add in diced tomato, diced onion (white or red), squeeze some fresh lemon or lime juice and then add some salt and pepper. There is really no exact measurement for each item, I just add what looks right and then taste it to see if I need more. I picked up the avocado below from Miss Cordelias last night and am thinking it must be my good luck charm. In addition to the guacamole, I had a spinach mix salad last night with bacon, walnuts, boiled eggs and blue cheese on it. I just used a little olive oil for the dressing. Simple, but good, especially with the guacamole! Now, I’ll leave you with my good luck charm and some pictures to make you hungry. Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by today!!

  1. Your outfit is cute as always! And I love love love that new bracelet!
Your so fast at running! My best run last year was 41:20 which I'm very proud of! Maybe one day I can get close to yours 🙂
    Have a fabulous Thursday!

  2. Yum! now I need some guac! Homemade is the best and I don't usually measure out mine either. I put way too much lime in last time and I was the only one that could tolerate it, lol

  3. I wish I could get myself to like avocados but I just can't do it 🙁 Your hair looks amazing!
