Lighting Upgrades We Have Made in Our Home

I cannot believe we have been in our home for 5 years already. When I look back at pictures of how little the girls were though, 5 and 1, I almost think it feels longer. We have been through so much in this house. We have made so many memories here already. And over the years, we have also updated several things so far – mainly our lighting in our house. When we were building, we weren’t really prepared not had we researched lighting trends and styles. We were also newlyweds and new to living together. Add all that together, and you end up with 2 people in a new house who have no clue what their combined style is and how they plan to decorate. That has led to a little lighting upgrades over the years. = )

The first lights we updated in our home was our kitchen pendant lights. I am SO happy with them. They really give the space an elevated look, and they come in several colors too. I love the larger sizes of the pendants too. Next up was our living room. We had a ceiling fan in there, but with 14 ft. ceilings, you honestly couldn’t even feel the fan. We thought we would get more use out of a nice chandelier that would really make a statement in this room. I think the light does just that!

Next I moved onto the other kitchen lighting. We had a huge circular rustic pendant in here, and we decided to go with something a little more modern with clean lines that still had an elevated feel. I think this chandelier is just that. As a matter of fact, we loved it so much that we ordered the exact same one in a larger size for the dining room table too.

This new chandelier in here looks SO much better! The previous one had a rectangular shape and hung so low to the table. It honestly ended up being sort of an eye sore and visually blocked you from really being able to see people sitting just right across from you at the table. And I love that it lends a very cohesive look to our home by tying in the 2 matching chandeliers over the dining tables.

The last lighting we replaced was our primary bathroom vanity lights. Our previous lights were rusted even though they were brand new, so it was the perfect time to just go ahead and replace them. I fell in love with these fluted glass vanity lights. The fluted glass really gives it such an elevated glam look. I eventually plan to replace the ones in the kids’ rooms too to match these. I love how all the new lighting looks. It definitely makes the space look more updated and elevated. Home trends change so quickly, so I really want to try to keep things as classic as I can instead of too trendy. What do you think about our updated light fixtures throughout our house? What are your favorite things to update in the house?
