There are several great options for swim lessons in the Memphis area, but today I wanted to share my favorites. We have tried out two of the places on this list and were very happy with them, but the others came highly recommended locally. Leighton first went to swim lessons when she was 6 months old at the YMCA, and we loved it to get her used to the water and more comfortable with it. They also taught me some great skills and things to know when having a young child in the pool with me. She later took swim lessons at 5 at Donna’s Swim School and got it within her first week. She absolutely loved it! I think she was sold on the goggles and the diving board lol.
Amelia took ISR when she was 2, and we put her in swim lessons when she was 3. She did so well with ISR, and I hear such great things about it. I would definitely recommend it for any child, especially if you have a pool. We put her in 1 week of swim lessons each summer from ages 3-6, and got it down this last year. I think it motivated her to learn to swim so she wouldn’t have to wear a life jacket at the splash pad and shallow parts of waterparks again lol. She swims like a little fish now and loves it so much! She had to take a swim test last summer and this summer and passed it both times. She asked if she could take the test everyday lol. She really does love the water!
Grayson started taking 1 lesson a week each summer since he was 2, so this is his 3rd year. So far he absolutely loves the diving board! I’m not sure if he will get it down this year being so young still, but it has been so great to get him more comfortable with the water and to learn how to go to the edge or steps and to paddle and float on his back too. It’s definitely comforting to know that he is learning the skills to stay safer in water. With 3 kids and us loving being in the water, it makes me feel so much for comfortable too! He has 2 weeks of lessons this summer, and I’m so excited to see how he progresses. I’m sure in no time I’ll have all swimmers in our house, and the kids will love swimming and racing with each other lol!
