I have always been a great sleeper. Fast forward to 2022 and I could not sleep anymore. I didn’t matter what I did, I just couldn’t fall asleep. I would have a million thoughts going through my head. I would think I had a million things to do. I would sit up all night working and just couldn’t turn my brain off. That’s when I started using melatonin for about a year. At that point, it was the ONLY way I was able to sleep. Even magnesium didn’t work. It was the only way I could actually get some sleep. I would lay awake for hours just wide awake until I took melatonin, and then I would finally fall asleep.
About a year later, I decided it was time to finally address it and try to find ways to naturally go to sleep again. I started by making sure I got plenty of movement and exercise during the day. I started waking up earlier and getting some sunshine first thing. Then I did the harder part. I lost 50 lbs over the course of 9 months. I think all of these things combined with the 10 tips below really helped me to finally start going to sleep naturally every night. I started falling to sleep earlier and easier and sleeping more uninterrupted too. Check out my tips below for sleeping better naturally.
.) Finish your meal at least 3 hours before bedtime.
.) Limit caffeine/alcohol before bedtime.
.) Limit screen time within an hour of your bedtime.
.) Do something calming before bed like taking a bath, reading or journaling.
.) Use some calming scents like lavender, or you could even make some lavender tea.
.) Turn the temperature down at bedtime to naturally cool your sleeping space.
.) Use blackout curtains or a sleep mask to make sure your room is dark at bedtime.
.) Use a sound machine to listen to white noise or relaxing music.
.) Lie down at least 3o minutes before you want to go to sleep.
.) Try to go to bed around the same time each night.
