If you’re looking for a unique place to stay in Downtown Memphis, Hotel Pontotoc is one of the most interesting and historic hotels in the city. Matt and I first checked it out last summer when they opened, and we were blown away by how much the inside of the hotel had transformed. Located just a few blocks from Beale Street and other popular Memphis landmarks, this boutique hotel combines Memphis history with modern design and a really cool atmosphere. Whether you’re visiting Memphis for a weekend, a show at the Orpheum, a FedExForum event, or just a staycation downtown, Hotel Pontotoc is a really fun and different place to stay.

A Hotel with History
One of the most interesting things about Hotel Pontotoc is the history. The building was originally built in 1906 as a European-style hotel near Central Station for railway and riverboat travelers. Today, it is a boutique hotel with 10 rooms and a bar, the Dame, downstairs. Over the years, the building has had many lives — it has been:
- A luxury hotel
- A Turkish bathhouse
- A bordello in the 1920s
- A family hotel
- A nightclub
- A private residence
- A restored boutique hotel

Hotel Pontotoc has been part of Downtown Memphis for more than a century, and renovation was fully finished in 2025 while still keeping the original character and historic feel of the building. They did an incredible job keeping everything that was special about the property and then adding unique and modern touches, especially ones that really embody Memphis. The design inside mixes historic details like original floors and walls with modern furniture and updated rooms, which gives it a really cool boutique hotel feel.
The hotel has 10 rooms total that include:
- Studio rooms and suites
- Kitchenettes in some suites
- Complimentary continental breakfast
- Free Wi-Fi
- A bar and lounge downstairs called The Dame
- A garden patio
- Walking distance to many downtown Memphis attractions

Convenient Location in Downtown Memphis
One of the best things about Hotel Pontotoc is the location. It’s on a quiet street in downtown but still very close to everything. It’s within walking distance to:
- Beale Street
- The Orpheum Theatre
- National Civil Rights Museum
- FedExForum
- The Mississippi River
- Restaurants and bars like The Lobbyist, Felicia Suzanne’s and Barware
- Old Dominick’s Distillery
- Downtown shops and attractions
Downtown Memphis has grown so much over the last several years. There are so many great hotels in the area, and it is really exciting for Memphians. Matt an I love a good staycation, and Hotel Pontotoc is one of our favorite spots because it truly is the most unique hotel in the city. Hotel Pontotoc is a great place to stay if you want somewhere unique to stay in Memphis that is within walking distance of so many other great spots to explore too. Have you been to Hotel Pontotoc yet?
