There is something about a beautifully styled outdoor table that instantly makes an ordinary dinner at home a little more special. This summer I’ve been trying to create more intentional moments at home without spending a fortune or overcomplicating things, and this backyard tablescape ended up being one of my favorite setups yet. The best part is that almost everything on this table was either something I already owned or pieces I know I’ll use over and over again for entertaining. A few thoughtful details made the entire setup look much more expensive than it actually was.
The Secret to a High-End Looking Tablescape
I really think the secret to an elevated table is layering. When you combine linens, candlelight, florals, and textured serving pieces together, the table instantly looks more styled and intentional. You do not need dozens of decorations or a huge entertaining budget. A few beautiful pieces mixed with things you already own usually create the prettiest tables. For this setup, I stayed with a soft blue color palette to keep everything classic and timeless for summer. And then I added soft pops of pink hues.
Start with One Statement Piece
This blue floral tablecloth from Tuckernuck completely set the tone for the table. It added color, pattern and pretty, timeless details without needing much else layered on top. Whenever I’m styling a table, I usually start with one statement piece first whether that is the tablecloth, plates, or florals. Once you have one strong focal point, the rest of the table comes together much more easily. All of my Tuckernuck pieces are new, but they are great timeless pieces that I will use a lot over the years. Everything were things I already had around the house.
Why the Small Details Matter
The smaller details are honestly what make a table look expensive. I paired the floral tablecloth with scalloped napkins, tortoise napkin rings, and a woven silverware caddy all from Tuckernuck. Those layered textures gave the table a collected designer look while still keeping it relaxed and casual enough for outdoor entertaining. I also added bow candle holders with soft pink candles which might have been my favorite part of the entire setup. Candlelight instantly changes the atmosphere of a table and makes even a casual dinner outside look much more special. I already had these pieces, and they were perfect to pull out for this tablescape.
Use What You Already Have
One of my favorite things about this table is that I did not buy fresh flowers specifically for it. I used leftover florals I already had at home from Mother’s Day. I threw away the old flowers and repurposed the ones that were still pretty and fresh. I added in a couple blue hydrangeas to one of my favorite vases, and voilà, they were perfect for the centerpiece. I actually think using what you already have often creates a prettier and more natural result anyways. It keeps entertaining from becoming overly expensive and makes everything look a little less perfect in the best way. Some of the most beautiful tables are not the most elaborate ones. They are the tables that look warm, lived in and inviting.
You Don’t Need a Special Occasion
This table reminded me that beautiful entertaining does not have to wait for a holiday or big event. Sometimes it is enough to light a few candles, set the table and make an ordinary summer night at home feel a little more special. One of my favorite ways to do that is by starting with classic white dinnerware. That is exactly why I invested in simple white plates. They pair easily with almost any color palette and make it easy to create a completely different look just by swapping out linens, glassware or a few decorative details.
Final Thoughts
The best tablescapes are often the ones created with pieces you already own. Mixing and matching items from around your home can make a table look fresh, elevated and thoughtfully curated without spending a lot of money. Slower evenings gathered around the table outdoors have become some of my favorite moments of summer, and this setup was a reminder that sometimes the simplest nights end up being the most memorable.
