Y’all know I love a good deal, and today I’m going to share my 10 best tips to ensure that you save the most amount of money you can when shopping too! I have loved shopping for as long as I can remember, but I’ve never loved a hefty price tag. I am all about finding quality pieces that I will wear that will last without costing me a ton of money. Keep reading for my top 10 money-saving tips when buying clothing.
10 Ways to Save Money on Your Fashion Purchases
1.) Sell what you don’t wear – If you’re looking to expand your closet, the first thing you should do is take inventory of your own closet. What you do have that you don’t wear?? Sell those pieces to make money before adding more to your closet. And while you’re at it, survey what you aren’t wearing and try to avoid buying those same pieces again that you still won’t wear. = )
2.) Use promo codes and coupons – Retailmenot is a favorite site of mine to find in-store and online coupons. If you’re looking for a coupon, odds are that you can find it here. But don’t just stop there, google can be your friend and even groups for those stores or brands on Facebook. Promo codes are a great way to save money!
3.) Be loyal to your favorite stores and brands – Find your favorites and stick with them. Sign up for emails and texts from them. Also, join loyalty programs where you’re rewarded for shopping there. Just make sure you aren’t impulse shopping every time you get a text or email from them. = )
4.) Shop out of season – The best way to save money on some great pieces is to shop out of the current upcoming season. Stores are wanting to stock their shelves for the current and upcoming seasons, not one that has just passed. They are wanting to get rid of the old inventory to bring in new inventory. Now is your time to get a great deal!
5.) Shop at auctions & resale sites – eBay, Amazon, Poshmark, Mercari. These are a favorite of mine! I have been buying and selling on eBay for about 20 years. It is an auction site where you can find some great deals. The same is true of Amazon, Poshmark, and Mercari, but you won’t bid. Prices are set, and some of them are great deals. Know the price of what you’re looking for and do some research for a great deal!
6.) Wait for store sales – Want something right now? If they have plenty of an item in your size, then wait just a little bit, and they are bound to have a sale. Around the holidays and before an upcoming holiday is the perfect time to finally snag that piece you’ve been wanting.
7.) Find a great tailor – That piece you’ve been wanting finally went on sale, but they only have 1 size bigger than what you need. At 70% off, that top may still be a great deal to buy, and pay a small amount to have it taken in at the tailor. I love going to my tailor often. It’s a great way to make a piece look even more expensive like it was made just for you!
8.) Shop on Facebook groups & marketplace – Over the last 5-10 years, this has become even more popular for shopping. I use it almost daily to sell items and sometimes buy them too. You can find almost everything you’re looking for. Some are local and some are available for shipping. You can usually find a really good deal here as compared to other places because they are more limited in their audience reach.
9.) Visit consignment and thrift stores – Another favorite of mine! Y’all know that I have raved about Sugar Plum Consignments for years. If you’re looking for a designer item or brand, you can probably find it here. I especially love them for designer bags!
10.) Rent clothing – Nuuly and Rent the Runway are some of my favorites. I’ve used both of them, and I currently use Nuuly when I have weddings or any events coming up where I need to try some new outfits but don’t want to have to commit to buying more clothing. It’s a great way to try out several new pieces for a month for a small fee.
