Friends, Pizza & Running – Harbor Town 5K

Holly, Meredith, Angela, Jake, Lindsey, me and Chris before the 5K.
Chris, Holly, me and Jake post race.
7 pizzas in the refrigerator.  Anyone up for a party?

This Friday Holly, Chris and Jake came in town to run the Harbor Town 5k in my neighborhood. When they got here that afternoon Shane took us all on a golf cart ride around the neighborhood.  It was perfect weather outside for a ride – 75 degrees and not much humidity.  When Holly and Chris got to the house, I felt like I’d known them for years and we just picked right up where we left off in St. Louis back in April.  It was my first time to meet Jake, and don’t worry, we didn’t take a kidney and leave him in a bath tub of ice.  I really liked Jake a lot – so personable and sweet.  Shane had hurt his foot earlier this week, so he sat out for this race for the first time, but it worked out because he played the role of golf cart shuttle.  Right before the race started, I got to meet one of my readers – Natalie, and I met Mercedes the day before at packet pickup.  That is the first time I’ve ever met readers.  I still don’t know why people read my blog (but I’m happ you do!). By the time the race started, it felt a little bit hotter, but that was probably from the running and the half mile walk to the start line.  I didn’t have any knee pain, and the new Brooks Pureflow 2’s felt great; I definitely recommend them for running.  I didn’t PR by any means (30 minutes,) but we all had a great time running together. This is definitely my favorite run of the year.  And it doesn’t hurt that the course is completely flat.  My SIL Lindsey finished in 36 minutes, and this was her first 5K ever! I was so proud of her. I think my mom may have beat her PR too.
After the race we walked back over to my MIL’s house to hang out by the pool.  A few brave souls including Shane and Holly braved the freezing cold water.  I stuck one toe in, and that was it.  We ordered Aldo’s because having it two nights in a row is not enough.  My favorite was the Memphis, which is a bbq pizza, and the Willie, Cheech and Bob (thanks AJ for the recommendation!)  And if you live in the Memphis area, we still have 7 whole pizzas at our house.  Note to self – 15 people will not eat 10 pizzas. Duly noted.  I actually had to take 3 shelves out of the fridge just to fit all the pizzas in there.
Saturday, I met Holly, Chris and Jake at Local Downtown for just a bit.  We sat out on the patio, and it was the perfect afternoon.  I headed back home for some golf cart and park time with Shane, Spike and Lola and then we headed out to Blue Fin that night for a much needed date night.  And guess who we spotted across the restaurant as we were leaving – Holly, Chris and Jake.  I think Holly almost jumped out of her seat and hit the ceiling when I popped up behind her and scared her.  I was glad we got to run into them again to say our goodbyes.  Can’t wait until our next run with them for the St. Jude Half Marathon in December.  Anyone else doing the St. Jude Half or Full Marathon this year?

  1. I had a great time with you guys Friday. Thanks for introducing me to Aldo's. It was great and the hubs was totally jealous when I told him about it as he ate a can of ravioli for his after work meal that night.

  2. Whenever a Memphis blogger mentions going to Local for dinner & drinks I immediately get a pang of jealousy. It was always the go-to restaurant for my husband and I! It looks like you had such a fun weekend!

  3. I was there for the race too! Probably one of the most enjoyable races I have done this year – perfect temperatures, basically flat course, wonderful after party, beautiful surroundings. Looking forward to doing this one again next year.

  4. Such a fun weekend! Reading your blog def. makes me miss Memphis. Good thing I'll be back in November! I'm going to have to make a phone call to Aldos as soon as I get there.

    Happy monday!

  5. I seriously think it is freaking awesome that you drive a golf cart around your neighborhood! Is that how everyone rolls there, or are you just a big baller??? If I am ever up that way…I am def coming over for a ride!!!
