Lately I have been on a pattern mixing kick! I used to gravitate more towards solids so I could get a lot of wear out of them, but I’ve realized that you can actually get more wear out of patterned pieces sometimes. You can wear big stripes with smaller stripes, polka dots, florals, geometric prints, tribal prints. Basically the possibilities are endless. In the long run, I can get more wear out of pieces this way, and it gives my outfits a fun vibe while still being work appropriate at my corporate office. This maxi skirt that I’m wearing was actually a maxi dress that I had tailored to a maxi skirt. I’ve said it before, but I go to a tailor often. It is the best way to have good fitting clothes that you like. I loved the print on the dress, but the top was too much too low-cut, but it was on clearance and I knew I would get a lot of wear out of it as a skirt. It still ended up costing less than a nice maxi skirt would have cost full price. Next on my list is to have my grandmother teach me how to use her sewing machine so I can do projects like this on my own.
Today I paired this skirt with one of favorite patterns to mix – stripes. I asked a couple weeks ago for some recommendations on some great sleevless blouses, and yall came through, and I was able to find
this one from J. Crew. I ordered it last week when the new arrivals were an extra 25% off, but when it got here I realized it ran about two sizes too big. When I took it to the store to exchange it, they gave me back $15 because it had went on sale. That made the top $30 before taxes, not too bad! I wanted some comfortable shoes, so I wore my new
LeBunny Blue wedges. They are really comfortable and soft, have a neon yellow peep-toe, and I’ll be giving away an identical pair within the next month. I’m wearing some of my new favorite bracelets today including this gorgeous
Derng cross bracelet. I also wanted to let you know about some specials that a couple of the stores have going on right now.
Max and Chloe is having a sweepstakes on
their Facebook page where 3 winners can win a $100 gift certificate. Also, that beautiful
lavender bow bracelet I’m wearing, it is 30% off through this Sunday at midnight, as is everything else on their site! Just use code 30OFFSALE.
While you’re out shopping some of the awesome 4th of July sales that most of the stores have going on right now, I would love for you to stop and visit a couple of my sponsors.
Erin is a Tennessee girl too. In addition to being beautiful both inside and out, she is also incredibly talented. She has a great sense of style, has an adorable son, loves to cook and is a very talented artist. The two photos on the right are two paintings that she did, and I just love that one of the dog. Erin has really become one of my friends through blogging, and she is so down to earth and sweet. Please stop by and say hello to
Erin if you get a chance.

Elvy is a twenty-something wife and stay-at-home mom of 2 little girls under 2 living near the deserts of SoCal. I met her recently through blogging/Instagram and have loved seeing her outfits that she has linked up each Tuesday with the Trend Spin Linkup. She and her girls are just too adorable, and Elvy is a complete sweetheart. She created Pigtails & Pearls as a commitment to herself that she would not fall into the rut of wearing the typical mom uniform – sweats – all day long. She likes to blog about her style, looking fabulous on a budget and every once in a while her adorable girls make an appearance, sharing their style too. Please stop by and say hello to
Elvy if you get a chance.
What are your plans for the weekend? Do you tailor your clothes to make them look and fit the way you want them? Have you checked out some of the great 4th of July sweepstakes and sales? Are you getting your red, white and blue look ready for the Trend Spin Linkup next Tuesday? Have you stopped by and visited Erin and Elvy?
