What Mom Really Wants for Mother’s Day

Today I wanted to share some of my favorite gifts that I (and my mom) would love.  Instead of all the typical Mother’s Day gifts that include flowers, candles and perfumes, I wanted to try to really think what I would want and pick some things out that are a little different.  First up is Stitch Fix.  I’ve already received  2 over the last couple months, and I’ve kept at least 2 things in each box.  It is only $20 a month for a stylist to hand pick items and ship them to your door.  You keep what you want and send the back rest in the same box with a prepaid shipping label.  If you buy something, the $20 goes towards that.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised with each box, and it has introduced me to some new styles and brands I didn’t think would work for me at first.  It’s a good service to let you try new things without the commitment.  I already have enough commitment in my life; sometimes I want to be able to change my mind.  Something I can say yay or nay to each month.  Next up is jewelry.  While that’s really not that unique of a gift, any jewelry from Kendra Scott will always be appreciated.  If any husbands are reading this, you can thank me later.  Their new summer collection just dropped a couple weeks ago, and it is pretty amazing too.
One of my favorite gifts on this list is number 3 – a membership to something for the entire family (or just yourself if you want!)  If you’re local, there are some great memberships like the Memphis Zoo, Children’s Museum of Memphis, Dixon Gallery & Gardens or even season passes to Live at the Garden for you to spend some quality time with your hubby or a friend.  Membership gifts are the best because they are the gift that keeps on giving.  Right now it is warm and pretty, and we all want  to be outdoors, but come this winter, you will be happy you have a membership to a children’s museum indoors too so you and the kiddos can get out of the house!  It’s a win win.  Weekend getaway!  If you don’t have any local events like Live at the Garden or Memphis in May, I completely recommend just having a little weekend getaway.  Whether it is with your family, your significant other or your friends, we all need some me time!  A bed and breakfast would be perfect!
Running shoes can be so expensive.  They’re one of those things that really hurt me to buy because I hate spending $100 a pop on a pair of shoes when I know they will only last for about 6 months.  Isn’t that funny – we will buy heels every week, but then it’s hard to spend the money to get shoes to run in.  That’s the difference in men and women.  I’ve always loved lockets, but once you become a mom, you just have this need to put every single kid on a piece of jewelry and wear it everyday.  We just can’t get enough of 1. jewelry 2. having pictures of our kids with us.  This pretty and unique locket is the perfect piece that can be worn with everything.
Spa day.  That about sums it up.  I’m talking the full works here.  A place that does massages, blowouts, manis, pedis.  You name it, I want it all.  Last Christmas, Shane bought me a spa day package from a local spa here in Memphis, Goulds, and it was amazing!  It included an hour massage, a manicure, a pedicure, a blowout, and lunch (by myself!)  It was right after I went back to work from maternity leave, so I was SO happy to just get to eat lunch all by myself in peace and quiet.  It’s the little things when you’re a mom.  
Sunglasses!  These are another one of those things that are just on my splurge list.  The funny thing is I wear them every single day so I definitely get my money’s worth out of them, but I just can’t bring myself to actually buy myself a $100+ pair very often.  This pair here is perfect.  Tortoise.  Mirrored lenses.  And $12.  That means more gifts for you or mom with such a thrifty purchase!  Another one of my favorite purchases – a housecleaning service!  We use a local company in Memphis, and they are amazing, but I’ve heard great things about lots of other places too.  Do some research and find a company and person you love.  We have been using the same lady for over 2 years now.  She has actually followed us in 3 different houses, but we love her so much we refuse to find someone else.  I am a huge neat freak, I love to clean, and I’m super OCD, so at first I thought there was no reason I would ever need a housecleaning service once a month.  It has been some of the best spent money.  I’ve realized now (especially with a kid) that I don’t love doing the deep cleaning.  I keep the house very clean and neat all the time, but I let someone else do the things I don’t love to do.  = )  It’s all about our time now.  Sometimes our time is worth so much more.
Give mom a chance to get outdoors and relax!  I think a hammock or any other kind of outdoor dΓ©cor would be a perfect gift.  Shane got me a swing a couple years ago for V Day and a picnic table last year for Mother’s Day, and they have been some of my favorite gifts so far.  We also have these rockers and love them!  We could all use the relaxation, right?  In addition to framed photos and canvases from Minted and Shutterfly, I think a canvas like this one would be perfect.  I am constantly looking for more art pieces to go on my walls, and I feel like it’s always a work in progress.  So tell me, what do you want for Mother’s Day?  What are you getting your mom?  What are your favorite gifts on my list?
