How did you ring in the new year? We had our first quiet, low key NYE in years, and it was so nice! Matt and I just cozied up and ate dinner at home together while watching a movie. It was after the kids went to bed, and it was just perfect. We have got dressed up and went out the last couple years, so it was the perfect change we needed this year.

True to the new year, I love to come up with a word to focus on for the remainder of the year. Part of the problems with new years resolutions is that they can just be too much. They are too complicated, they are too much and they’re not sustainable. So I started choosing a new word a few years ago. It helps me to just have 1 word to focus on. It’s not too much so that you get overwhelmed and just give up. It is one little word, and thinking about it and striving towards it each day helps.

My Word for This New Year

It was hard to come up with a word this year, but I decided on joyful this year. There is no point in doing much of anything if you’re not joyful about it. I don’t want to just parent, work and travel and not be joyful. What would be the point in that? So, this year I’m working on being joyful each day. Each day doesn’t have to be the best, but there is still joy to be had in each day. There are still things to be thankful for and blessings that I have received. And that brings joy, and I want to focus on that joy.

I could focus on my health, my family, my job and everything else, but doing it all without joy seems pointless. So, care to join me in finding the joy everyday? In the big things, in the small things. Joy is all around us, and living a life with joy and thankfulness is so much better than living a life without joy. Every thing we do is so much better served by living with joy. And if it doesn’t serve you, then you don’t need it. = )

I’m really looking forward to 2024, and I’m looking forward to trying to find little bits of joy all around me each day and making sure that I have a joyful and thankful heart. With the right attitude, I think we can get through anything. Here’s to 2024 and seeing what all is in store for us! I do know that it will be filled with plenty of joy, and I’m here for every moment of it! What are your resolutions or words for 2024? What are you looking forward to in the new year?
