Things to Do to Improve Your Health

Practice gratitude when you wake up. This sets the tone for your entire day and also can help you reduce your stress.

Drink 16 oz of water before your coffee. I swapped my coffee to decaf last year. And while you don’t have to do that, just make sure you drink your water first. Most of us drink much too little water each day.

Apply your spf daily in the morning. Even if you don’t plan to be outside in the sun all day, you would be surprised how much sun exposure you actually get each day.

Get 15 minutes of morning sunshine. Vitamin D is so good for you, and I am always low on it. Just adding a little each morning will really help to naturally increase it so you don’t have to take a supplement. It can also help reset your circadian rhythm which can help you sleep better at night.

Call a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Socializing each day is so good for our emotional well-being. As humans, we need and love the company of others. It can definitely be a little boost each day to make you smile.

Lift weights for 30 minutes. Building strong, lean muscle is so important, especially when we lose so much as we get older. Start now! I just do about 30 minutes 4 days a week. It doesn’t take much, but every little bit helps. Do the same workouts each week and just increase the weights or reps as you can each week.

Eat your protein first at each meal. Most of us Americans eat way too little protein. While most people really need to up their protein intake, a good way to start is to at least make sure you have protein at all your meals, and eat it first to help you feel up.

Replace refined sugars at each meal with colorful vegetables. Forget those refined sugars that are stored as fat in your body. Sure, they taste good and are made to. But they wreak havoc on our bodies and aren’t doing anything beneficial for us. And they don’t feel us up either. They actually make us crash later, and then we are starving again! Replace them for yummy vegetables instead!

Finish your dinner at least 3 hours before bedtime. This will give your body time to start digesting the food and also help decrease stomach issues at night or acid reflux.

Stop snacking. Eating more meals a day really doesn’t do anything for us…other than make us eat more each day. Snacks aren’t actually even necessary. And when most people snack, it’s usually carbs which actually make us even hungrier. I always felt like I was getting headaches from not eating often enough, but what I realized is it was what I was eating that was actually spiking and then dropping my blood sugar later making me hungry and light-heading, thinking I needed to eat again.

Go for a walk. After dinner is a great time to do this. It’s a great way to get some movement in each time. I love listening to an audiobook or music while walking. It’s a great de-stressor too!

Put your phone down an hour before bed and read a chapter in your favorite book. Screen-time on your phone or tv can make it hard for you to fall asleep. Put your devices away an hour before bedtime. It’s the perfect time to read a book or your devotional.

Wash your face. Always wash your makeup off at night…no matter how tired you are!

Apply your retinol or glycolic acid at night. These are my 2 favorites right now. The glycolic acid helps with skin tone and texture. The retinol helps with wrinkles.

Get 8-9 hours of sleep. There are tons of bodily functions that are done at bedtime, so it’s important that you get plenty of sleep so your body can repair cells, digest food, regulate your metabolism and give your muscles a break. It’s hard work doing everything we do each day, and your body needs time to recharge.

Which of these tips to improve your health will you implement today? Which are your already doing?
