How to Host a Mother’s Day Garden Party

How to Host a Mother’s Day Garden Party

There’s something about spring that just makes you want to gather your favorite people, slow down, and celebrate the season—and Mother’s Day is the absolute perfect reason to do just that. This year, I hosted a Mother’s Day garden party at Dixon Gallery & Gardens with a few friends, and it was such a special way to gather with friends and family who are moms themselves too. The Dixon was the perfect backdrop to it all with the gorgeous azalea blooms, and the food and company was even better. If you’ve ever thought about hosting a Mother’s Day event, I’m sharing exactly how to host this garden party that feels effortless but still special.

Choose a Beautiful Outdoor Setting

The setting really sets the tone for your entire gathering. I hosted mine outdoors surrounded by blooming flowers and greenery, which instantly created that garden party feel without needing much extra decor. The Dixon is known for it’s beautiful blooms. I wish I could have caught it in time for their tulips blooming, but honestly the white tulips ended up being just perfect. And the bonus is that I didn’t even need a floral arragnement on the table with pretty flowers already surrounding us. If you don’t have a garden space, you can easily recreate this with:

  • A backyard or patio
  • A local park
  • A venue with outdoor space

Look for somewhere that already feels pretty and relaxed so you don’t have to overdo it with styling. And then add lots of floral arrangements or potted plants. Even a floral bouquet bar could be so fun!

Keep the Food Simple but Elevated

One of the best decisions I made was keeping the food easy and approachable while still feeling elevated. Chef Phillip Dewayne at Park + Cherry did such a great job with the food and drinks.

For this gathering, we had:

  • A charcuterie board with gluten free crackers, jam, fruit and veggies (perfect for grazing and sharing)
  • Gluten-free brownie bites for something sweet
  • Cupcakes from Smallcakes Collierville
  • Fruit-infused water and tea for a refreshing, spring-inspired drink option

The key is choosing items that are easy to serve and don’t require a lot of prep during the event so you can actually enjoy your time with your guests.

Add Simple, Thoughtful Details

You don’t need a ton of decor to make a garden party feel beautiful—it’s all about a few intentional touches.

Some easy ideas to add:

  • Fresh flowers or small floral arrangements
  • Soft, neutral or pastel tones for a tablecloth
  • A simple, styled food table that lets the food really help to elevate it
  • Comfortable seating that encourages conversation
  • Elevated floral patterned tablewear

The goal is to enhance the natural setting, not compete with it. I went with a pretty blue hydrangea print and gold plastic flatware. It ended up being so pretty, but also so easy. When the event was over, I just tossed everything into the trash. It made cleanup so much faster and easier too.

Why a Garden Party Is Perfect for Mother’s Day

On Mother’s Day, most of us are doing the same thing we do everyday, spending it with our children. So for one day, I wanted to do something special for my mom friends and celebrate them.

Hosting a garden party is such a sweet way to:

  • Celebrate the moms in your life
  • Spend intentional time together
  • Slow down and just take time to enjoy the day

It doesn’t have to be big or elaborate to be memorable. Honestly what I loved most about this event is how easy and relaxing it was. It just gave us all time to be together.

This Mother’s Day garden party reminded me that some of the best moments are the simplest ones. A beautiful table setting, flowers blooming, a few thoughtful details, and time with people you love—that’s really all you need. If you’ve been thinking about hosting something like this, consider this your sign to do it. It might just become one of your favorite traditions. Would you host a Mother’s Day garden party?
