Fall is one of the best times of year to plan a date in Memphis. The humidity finally eases, the leaves begin changing and the cooler temperatures make it possible to spend an entire afternoon outside without counting down the minutes until you can get back into the air conditioning.
Dinner is always a good idea, but sometimes it is nice to plan a date around actually doing something together. Whether you want to see a Broadway show, attend one of Memphis’s signature fall events, take a creative class or do something a little spooky, there are plenty of fall dates that go beyond making another restaurant reservation.
These 15 fall date ideas include outdoor adventures, seasonal festivals, live entertainment and creative experiences. Some require advance tickets, so check the venue’s official calendar before making plans.
1. Sample Tennessee Wines at Sip TN Memphis
Sip TN Memphis Wine Festival returns to the Red Barn at Agricenter International on November 7, 2026 from noon until 5:00 p.m.
The festival showcases more than 100 wines produced in Tennessee, along with hard ciders and meads. Guests can sample different varieties, shop with local artisans, enjoy food and purchase bottles from participating Tennessee wineries to take home.
Even if you do not know much about wine, the festival gives you something new to try together and an easy way to discover Tennessee wineries you might not otherwise visit.
2. Go to Zoo Rendezvous at Memphis Zoo
Experience Memphis Zoo after hours during two of its biggest adults-only events. Zoo Brew returns August 14, 2026 from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m. with local, regional and national breweries, live music, lawn games and time to explore the Zoo after dark.
Zoo Rendezvous takes place September 11, 2026 from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m. This year’s Heroes and Villains theme includes unlimited food and drink tastings, live entertainment featuring LOVER: An Eras Tour Experience, five DJs and themed experiences throughout the Zoo.
Both events offer a completely different way to experience Memphis Zoo and make an easy date night because the entertainment, food and activities are all in one place. Tickets are required, and these popular events can sell out.
3. See a Fall Show at the Orpheum
There is something about getting dressed up and seeing a show that makes a regular night feel special. Check the Orpheum Theatre’s calendar for a Broadway production, concert, film or performance you would both enjoy.
The 2026 fall Broadway calendar is particularly fun for the season. Clue runs September 15 through 20, and Spamalot arrives October 27 through November 1.
Arrive early enough to walk along Main Street or Beale Street before the curtain, then finish the night with dessert or coffee. The show becomes the center of the date, so dinner can be optional instead of the entire plan.
4. Cheer for the Memphis Grizzlies
Once basketball season begins, a Memphis Grizzlies game at FedExForum is one of my favorite energetic date-night options. Wear your Grizzlies gear, arrive early to walk around Beale Street and then settle in for the game.

5. Attend the Dixon Gallery & Gardens Art on Fire
The Dixon Gallery & Gardens gives you two dates in one: an art museum and 17 acres of landscaped gardens. Begin inside with the current exhibition and then take your time walking through the gardens once the afternoon cools down.
You can pack your own picnic or pick up something from Park + Cherry, the Dixon’s café, and eat outside. For an evening date, visit during Third Thursday, when the galleries remain open until 8:00 p.m.
The Dixon’s Art on the Rocks garden cocktail festival is scheduled for September 11, 2026 and includes botanical drinks, small bites and live entertainment. Art on Fire returns on October 24, 2026 with live music, tastings and fire pits throughout the South Lawn. It is one of those classic Memphis fall events that makes a regular date night much more special.
6. Take a Tour of Old Dominick Distillery
Old Dominick Distillery is a fun way to learn more about Memphis history while trying something different together. Take a tour to learn about the family behind the distillery and how its spirits are produced, then stay for a tasting.
The downtown location makes it easy to pair the tour with a walk through South Main, a visit to Tom Lee Park or dessert nearby. Tours are offered at select times, so reserve your space before building the rest of your date around it.
7. Attend a Food Truck Garden Party at Memphis Botanic Garden
Plan an easy outdoor date at one of Memphis Botanic Garden’s Food Truck Garden Parties. The 2026 fall events are scheduled for September 9 and October 14 and include local food trucks, live music and time to explore the Garden after hours.

8. Plan a Date During Downtown Dining Week
Downtown Dining Week is not the same as making another ordinary restaurant reservation. Each November, participating Downtown Memphis restaurants offer special menus, discounts and dishes created for the event.
Use it as an opportunity to try a restaurant that has been on your list or return to an old favorite. Make the evening more of an experience by walking through downtown, visiting the riverfront or stopping somewhere for dessert afterward.

9. Get Lost Together in the Mid-South Maze
A corn maze is not only for families with children. Going after dark makes it a fun fall date with just the right amount of competition. The Mid-South Maze at the Agricenter is scheduled to run from September 18 through October 31 for the 2026 season.
Try the regular maze if you want a casual date or look for one of its special October nighttime events if you both like being scared. Either way, wear shoes that can get dirty and plan to pick up cider or a seasonal treat afterward.
This is one of those dates that gives you plenty to laugh about and keeps you from sitting across a table trying to think of the next thing to say.
10. Try Axe Throwing or a Treetop Adventure at Go Ape
Add a little friendly competition to your fall date at Go Ape in Shelby Farms Park. Go Ape offers axe throwing and mini golf at ground level, along with treetop courses featuring zip lines, rope crossings and elevated obstacles.
Fall is one of the best times to try the outdoor courses because the temperatures are cooler and the changing foliage adds to the view. Book a morning or late-afternoon time, wear comfortable clothes and try not to take the final score too seriously.
11. Browse the Pink Palace Crafts Fair
The Pink Palace Crafts Fair has been a Memphis fall tradition for more than 50 years. For 2026, it returns to the grounds of the Pink Palace Museum & Mansion September 25 through 27.
Spend the day browsing pottery, jewelry, glass, woodwork, paintings, textiles and other creations from more than 150 artisans from across the country. The festival also includes traditional craft demonstrations, live music and food throughout the weekend.
Admission to the Crafts Fair includes access to the Pink Palace Museum & Mansion’s permanent collections on the date of your ticket. You can shop for something special, watch the demonstrations and explore the museum together, making this an easy date that can fill most of an afternoon.
12. Spend the Afternoon at RiverArtsFest
RiverArtsFest returns to Riverside Drive in Downtown Memphis October 17 and 18, 2026. The annual festival features fine art, local music, live artist demonstrations and hands-on activities along the river.
Browse work from artists in a variety of mediums, listen to live music and watch artists demonstrate how their pieces are created. The location also makes it easy to walk through Downtown Memphis, visit Tom Lee Park or stay for sunset over the Mississippi River.
RiverArtsFest runs from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. both days, so you can make it a full afternoon date or stop by before heading somewhere else downtown.
13. Listen to Live Music at the Green Room
For live music in a smaller and more intimate space, look at the calendar for The Green Room at Crosstown Arts. The room hosts jazz, soul, chamber music, singer-songwriters and other performances throughout the year.
The fall 2026 lineup includes the monthly Jazz Jam Session along with several touring and local performers. Make time before the show to explore Crosstown Concourse and its galleries, then find your seats before the lights go down.
It is a cozy indoor option for a chilly or rainy fall night and a good way to discover an artist you might not otherwise hear.
14. Take a Mississippi River Cruise
We live beside one of the most famous rivers in the world, but it is easy to forget how different Memphis looks from the water. Memphis Riverboats offers sightseeing cruises and evening dinner-and-music cruises on the Mississippi River.
The sightseeing cruise lasts about 90 minutes and includes live historical commentary, while the evening cruise pairs river views with blues and jazz. Choose a late-afternoon departure when available so you can catch the softer fall light over the water.
Afterward, walk through Tom Lee Park or along the riverfront and stay for sunset. Cruise schedules are seasonal, so confirm dates and departure times before making the rest of your plans.
15. Take a Haunted Walk Through Downtown Memphis
October is the perfect excuse to learn some of the darker stories behind familiar Memphis landmarks. Backbeat Tours’ Memphis Ghost Tour is a 90-minute guided walk through the South Main Historic District and some of Downtown Memphis’s reportedly haunted locations.
The tour departs near Beale Street, so you can walk around downtown before it begins or find a cozy place for dessert afterward. It is spooky without requiring an entire night inside a haunted house, and you will probably hear a few Memphis stories that are new to both of you.
