The calendar may say fall, but Memphis clearly did not get the memo. With temperatures still hovering near 97 degrees, I am not reaching for chunky sweaters just yet. Instead, I am finding ways to incorporate fall knits into outfits that still work for the weather we are actually having.
This black sleeveless knit top from VICI is such a good transitional piece because it gives me the texture and deeper color I want for fall without adding heavy sleeves. The mock neck makes it more interesting than a basic sweater, but it is still lightweight enough to wear on a hot September day.
I paired it with this camel pleated skort to bring in another classic fall color. Black and camel are always one of my favorite combinations this time of year because they look seasonal even when the individual pieces are still appropriate for warmer temperatures. The pleats add movement to the outfit, and the shorter length balances the higher neckline of the top. And the best thing is that the skort has built in shorts, and it is super soft and lightweight.

How to Wear Fall Knits in Warm Weather
Fall knits do not have to mean thick sweaters and heavy layers. Sleeveless sweater tops, lightweight knit dresses and short-sleeved cardigans are all easy ways to start dressing for the season without overheating. Look for breathable fabrics and pieces that can be worn alone now, then layered under a jacket once the temperature finally drops.
Color is another easy way to make a warm-weather outfit look more like fall. Black, camel, chocolate brown, burgundy and olive can shift an outfit into the new season even when the silhouette is still lightweight. You can also add fall accessories like a structured bag, booties or loafers without committing to a full sweater.
Once cooler weather arrives, I can keep wearing this top with jeans, trousers or a longer skirt and add a blazer or jacket over it. Transitional pieces are always the most useful items in my closet because I can style them now and continue wearing them throughout the rest of the season.
