We may still have summer temperatures in Memphis, but mentally, I have already moved on to fall style. This time of year is always a little tricky because I’m ready for layers, boots and richer textures, but the weather is not quite ready to cooperate. Pre-fall dressing is all about finding that balance. I like choosing lightweight pieces that work now and pairing them with darker colors, fall textures and accessories that hint at the season ahead. You do not need to wear a sweater and jacket to make an outfit look appropriate for fall.
My Pre-Fall Look from VICI
For this pre-fall outfit, I paired a satin blouse from VICI with a faux-leather skirt and ankle booties. The satin blouse is lightweight enough for the warmer weather we are still having, while the faux leather and booties move the outfit into fall. I love the contrast between the two textures. The satin adds a softer, more polished element while the faux leather gives the outfit a little edge. Together, they create a look that works perfectly for this in-between season. This would be such a good outfit for date night, dinner with friends or an evening event. It is dressy without being over the top, and I can continue wearing every piece well into fall.

How to Wear Faux Leather Before Fall
You do not have to wait for cold weather to start wearing faux leather. The key is pairing it with something lighter on top instead of adding several heavy layers. A faux-leather skirt works especially well during pre-fall because you can wear it with a satin blouse, sleeveless top or lightweight button-down now. Once the temperatures drop, you can style the same skirt with a sweater, tights, taller boots or a blazer. Keeping the rest of the outfit simple allows the leather texture to stand out without making the entire look too heavy for September.
Why Satin Is Perfect for Transitional Style
Satin is one of my favorite fabrics for the transition into fall. It is light enough for warm afternoons, but its sheen gives an outfit a richer and more elevated look than a basic summer top. A satin blouse in the right fall color can be paired with faux leather for date night, denim for a more casual outfit or trousers for work. Later in the season, it also layers easily under a blazer or jacket. The combination of satin and faux leather makes this outfit interesting without needing a print or several accessories. The different textures do the work. When it gets cooler, pair it with denim or even suede.

Add Boots to Transition an Outfit into Fall
Shoes are one of the easiest ways to begin transitioning your wardrobe before the weather changes. Swapping sandals for ankle booties immediately gives an outfit more of a fall direction without requiring heavy layers. Boots and booties also work with so many transitional pieces, including dresses, skirts and cropped denim. I will wear mine now and then add tights or longer layers once it finally cools down in Memphis.
How to Build a Pre-Fall Outfit
When the calendar says fall but the temperature still says summer, start with one lightweight piece and add one or two seasonal elements. A sleeveless blouse with faux leather, a summer dress with booties or a lightweight top with dark denim can all create that balance. Color and texture matter more than heavy layers during this time of year. Satin, faux leather, suede and darker denim can make an outfit look ready for fall while still keeping it comfortable.
I love that this VICI outfit gives me the fall look I am ready to wear without pretending Memphis has sweater weather quite yet. Each piece works for the current season and can be restyled again when cooler temperatures finally arrive. Are you already dressing for fall, or are you still holding on to your summer wardrobe?
