Sonoma Wine Tasting Travel Guide: Healdsburg, California

Sonoma Wine Tasting Experience

Recently I took my second trip to Sonoma, and I wanted to share some of my Sonoma Wine Tasting favorites with you. Sonoma County, California consists of 9 different cities, and I visited one of my favorite cities there, Healdsburg. Healdsburg is located by the Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley in Sonoma County. I love this area because of the beautiful views of the valleys and the great vineyards there. It is about 30 minutes away from Napa Valley, a lot less crowded, and is a hidden gem in my opinion!

If you haven’t been to wine-country California yet, it can be a little overwhelming of where to go and which vineyards and wineries to visit. I’m sharing my favorites below. If you end up having more time, I definitely recommend spending a couple of days in Napa too. Napa Valley consists of 5 different cities, and my favorite there is St. Helena, which is such a charming city with lots of character and great wineries.

VINEYARDS TO VISIT:

DaVero Farms & Winery – DaVero is a family-owned small farm and vineyard. On top of amazing wines, they also produce olive oils and jams. This is one of my favorites in the area, and I love the small, family farm and vineyard feel of DaVero. It is truly a unique experience!

Jordan Vineyard & Winery – If you’re looking for one of the most beautiful vineyards in Healdsburg, this one is it. The gorgeous estate, the hedges, and gardens, the farms…it is just beautiful here! You will get some of the best-tasting food, best wines, and prettiest views here when you come for a wine-tasting tour of Jordan. I highly recommend it! I was worried it would be overrated. It 100% is not. It was my favorite stop on this trip, and it won’t disappoint!

Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery – Known for its pinot noir and chardonnay, Gary Farrell overlooks the Russian River Valley. On top of its refreshing wines, it boasts incredible views. The wine tasting and cheese plate are always amazing, and they have some of the most friendly and knowledgeable staff! This is the second time we have stopped by Gary Farrell on our Sonoma trip, and it will always Abe a stop on our list!

Silver Oak – This has been a long-time favorite of ours! They have vineyards in both Napa and Sonoma. I actually prefer the Alexander Valley location here in Healdsburg. Our favorites are their cabs, and I love that you can even personalize your wine bottles with special etched messages on them. This is a vineyard and wine tasting that you will want to add to your list!

HOTELS TO STAY:

Harmon Guest House – Chic and modern, this hotel is located in the perfect spot in town by the plaza. It is also super affordable!

Hotel Healdsburg – Another hotel located off the town plaza, it is in close proximity to some of the best vineyards, restaurants, and shopping. It is a little pricier than the first option, but it is well worth it! The rooms are spacious and luxuriously decorated.

Montage Healdsburg – This is hands down my favorite hotel in Healdsburg. It is the priciest of my favorite hotels in Healdsburg, but it is worth it! It has an amazing restaurant in the hotel, Hazel Hill. It also has several on-site activities including a walking trail, a pool, and more. All of the rooms are located off the main lobby of the hotel, bar, and restaurant. Enjoy a relaxing walk to your room as you take in the beautiful sights and grape vines.

I am already planning my next visit back next year! It is time to cross off more cities in Sonoma and start making our way over to Napa too. If you’ve visited Sonoma County before, what are some of your favorite vineyards?
